About the Role
1. Possess and maintain current Indiana State EMT-Paramedic certification as established by the Indiana Department of Homeland Security. Recommended certification of National Registry Paramedic.
2. Possess and maintain insurability under CMSS vehicle and the liability insurance policies provisions without “Driver’s Exclusion” and other insurance modifications and/or high-risk classification.
3. Achieve and maintain high level of patient care and clinical performance. Medical care initiated will be in accordance with local and state protocols, practices and medical control directives.
a. Assess each patient on a continuing basis, documenting results according to CMSS clinical policy and procedure.
b. Correctly utilize appropriate assessment techniques and instruments.
c. Gather and document appropriate patient information.
4. Provide care and treatment necessary for stabilization and life support for the patient.
a. Adheres to the Standing Orders and Protocols as defined by CMSS, the Supervising Hospital, and the Medical Director.
b. Assumes accountability for patient care and communication between facilities, agencies, and healthcare providers for continuity of care.
5. Acts as team leader and takes responsibility for scene management as needed.
6. Maintains vehicle readiness. Completes daily checks of the vehicle and equipment, restocking supplies as needed, and documenting as appropriate.
a. Replaces appropriate equipment and medical supplies in a timely manner, following patient care.
b. Maintains the cleanliness of both the interior and exterior of the CMSS vehicle.
7. Operate assigned motor vehicle under control at all ties and in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws and ordinances governing emergency vehicle operation and safe and efficient vehicle operations.
8. Maintain skill proficiency and clinical expertise by attending and maintaining certification in various EMS related programs.
a. Mandatory: CPR, ACLS, PALS or equivalent
b. Mandatory: Mandated clinical in-services per CMSS, supervising hospital, and Medical Director
c. Recommended: PHTLS, AMLS, BTLS
9. Assist with CMSS public relations events
10. Work and maintain “team” atmosphere with assigned partner for shift, and maintain a cohesive work environment.
11. Attends staff meetings, training sessions, and audit and review meetings.
12. Follow orders and work directly with physicians, nurses, supervisors, public safety agencies, police and fire personnel, general public, and other allied health care professionals.
13. Maintain professional communications.
14. Responsible for correct and timely submission of all paperwork related to patient care, treatment and transportation hand off per policy and procedure.
15. Adheres to CMSS confidentiality policy which includes verbal, written, computer generated, computer accessed, filmed, and recorded information related to patients, their family, staff physicians, and clients. Responsible for the protection of confidentiality of data at all times.
16. Responsible for exercising regular and punctual attendance; complies with CMSS attendance policy and procedures.
17. Must be able to lift 100 pounds and assist with 300 pounds
Requirements
The Paramedic has responsibility and accountability for assuring the delivery of quality and compassionate pre-hospital care to patients of all ages using proper techniques and following standards of care established by the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, CMSS, Supervising Hospital, and the Medical Director
Job Qualifications
1. High School Diploma or equivalent
2. Completion of IN Department of Homeland Security approved Paramedic Course
3. Current or valid Indiana Driver’s License
4. CPR Certification
5. ACLS Certification
6. PALS or equivalent Certification
7. PHTLS, BTLS, AMLS or equivalent preferred
